The Office of the Town Clerk is considered the "doorway to local government" because it is usually the first contact source for information and assistance. Please call or email with your questions or concerns and we will do our best to assist you. 

Although the Town Clerk does a little bit of everything, here are the primary subjects and areas that we assist residents with: 

Meeting Agendas, Detail, and Minutes
The Town Clerk is responsible for publishing information about public meetings and hearings. To view agendas, detail, and minutes, please see the corresponding department.

Proof of Residency 

The Town Clerk provides a proof of residency for various purposes. If you require this form, please contact our office at 845.351.4411.

Licenses and Permits

The Town Clerk is the primary licensing officer for your:
  • Marriage License
  • Dog License
  • Handicap Parking License 
  • Fishing and Hunting License
  • Games of Chance (e.g., Bingo) 
  • Marriage License
  • Transient Merchants & Peddler License
  • Towing License 

Election Coordinator

The Town Clerk oversees polling places and equipment, hires election inspectors, coordinates with Orange County and New York State, files official notices of registration days and polling places, dispenses voter registration forms and absentee ballot applications

There is often a need for election coordinators, which is a paid position. If you are interested, please contact the Town Clerk at 845.351.4411.

Records Management

The Town Clerk is the custodian of all Town of Tuxedo official records. The office administers Freedom of Information Law, maintains public signboards, posts meeting agendas in accordance with the Open Meetings Law, and receives bids for purchases and sales of all town materials. 

Freedom of Information Law (FOIL)

New York State’s Freedom of Information Law (Public Officers Law §87 et. seq. ) allows members of the public to access records of governmental agencies. FOIL provides a process for the review and copying of an agency’s records. More information about the Freedom of Information Law can be found at: http://www.dos.state.ny.us/coog/foil2.html.
