Positions Open on Town of Tuxedo Planning Board
The Tuxedo Town Council is seeking applicants for the Planning Board. Candidates with experience in municipal planning, architectural design, historic preservation, building renovation, construction, surveying or other related skills are preferred. Applicants must be 18 years of age, a Town or Village resident and a US citizen. The planning board has seven members who work with a consulting engineer and attorney to help prepare a comprehensive plan, zoning regulations, official maps, land use special purpose controls and compliance with the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA). Training is provided. The Board meets on the second Tuesday evening of each month, as needed. Job Description - Planning Board
The Planning Board's mission is to maintain and, when possible, improve quality of life in our community, governing issues such as growth, transportation, environmental protection, agriculture, historical preservation, and forest conservation. The Planning Board is largely responsible for setting land use throughout the Town.
LENGTH OF TERM: 5 years
RESPONSIBLE as an Advisory board to Town Council
TIME COMMITMENT: Approximately 5 hours per month
SPECIFIC DUTIES OF PLANNING BOARD MEMBERS:
Have a willingness to encourage and accept input from citizens, organizations and those directly affected by land use related actions made by the Planning Board.
Have an interest in comprehensive community planning, zoning and subdivision of land, and the protection of the environment.
Attend monthly Planning Board meetings to review and discuss upcoming agenda items, development issues, and to review and make decisions on land use development applications, and changes to Tuxedo’s land use regulations.
Become familiar with the law that covers public open meetings and hearings.
Complete five hours of relevant training within one year from the date of initial appointment to the Planning Board and four hours of relevant training in each subsequent year of membership.
Have a willingness and dedication to commit both time and personal energy to the Town Board of Planning & Development.
