Household Waste (Garbage)

he Town of Tuxedo's contracted waste removal service picks up garbage curbside weekly on Monday and Thursday.  Pickup begins at 6:00 AM.  Toters should be placed at curbside prior to that time on the mornng of, to ensure pick up service.  Please remove toters from your curbside and away from the road as soon as possible.  This will help keep our neighborhoods looking tidy and discourage our local wild life from bad eating habits.

Household Recycling

Recycling service is every Thursday.  Pickup begins at 6:00 AM.  Ensure that your cans are at the curb prior to that time. 



What can be recycled?

  • GLASS - Clear, green, and brown glass. DO NOT recycle dishes, light bulbs, drinking glasses, pyrex, ceramics or window glass.
  • CANS - Includes aluminum, tin, and bi-metal cans. DO NOT recycle foil trays, scrap aluminum, or aluminum foil.
  • PAPER - Includes newspaper, glossy print, junk mail, magazines, phone books, office/copy paper. Cardboard is acceptable. DO NOT recycle any cartons which have a foil layer. Do not include any Styrofoam.
  • PLASTICS - Includes #1 through #7 plastics. (See symbols below, which are usually marked on the bottom of the containers.)

Please DO NOT over-fill any containers – The material will fall out while during servicing or will be blown around your neighborhood. IWS cannot be responsible if overloaded.

In addition to the above, DO NOT recycle food waste, food containers, toner cartridges, clothing or yard waste.

 
Bulk Item Pickup

Bulk item pickup is provided every Thursday by appointment only.  Please call IWS at 845-572-3300 or 1-866-342-5497 to schedule a pick-up.  Items may include furniture, appliances, carpeting, and dried paint cans.  DO NOT include home improvement or remodeling waste such as drywall, sheetrock, lumber, piping, plaster or concrete waste, which materials are NOT eligible for bulk pickup. 


Yard Waste drop-off
Yard waste (leaves, brush, grass, compost, yard debris) may be bagged in brown paper bags. Bags can be purchased from local Hardwar/Home Repair stores.  Our Highway Department will pick up waste materials randomly throughout the year.  Place bags curb side on your property, never on the street.
  

Leaf and Yard Waste Pick Up
 
Leaves will be picked up in the months of October and November and until the first week of December. You must rake your leaves into paper bags.  These bags can be bought at local Hardware/Home Repair stores.
