The court handles the
following types of matters:
Vehicle & Traffic
Traffic infractions (non-criminal) may be answered by mail. Please enter
your plea in the appropriate box on the summons and mail to the Court at
One Temple Drive, Tuxedo, NY 10987 by the date on the summons.
If you are pleading GUILTY, you will be sent a fine letter. We accept
Cash (exact amount only), Money Order or Certified Check (Absolutely No
personal checks). We also accept VISA and MASTERCARD (Absolutely No
business cards).
If you are pleading NOT GUILTY, you will receive a notice with your
Pre-Trial Conference date.
Adjournment requests must be submitted in writing and mailed to the
Court at One Temple Drive, Tuxedo, NY 10987, or faxed to (845) 351-2018.
Parking Tickets
If you wish to plead
guilty, complete the required information on the rear of the ticket,
check the appropriate plea box, sign your ticket, and return to the
Court at One Temple Drive, Tuxedo, NY 10987 by the date on the ticket.
If you wish to plead not guilty, complete the required information on
the rear of the ticket, check the appropriate plea box, sign your
ticket, and return to the Court at One Temple Drive, Tuxedo, NY 10987 by
the date listed on the ticket. You will be sent a pre-trial conference
date.
If the parking ticket is for an uninspected vehicle or registration
violation, and not for an actual parking violation, the fine will be
assessed and you will be notified in writing of the amount.
Suspensions
If you receive a suspension notice from the NYSDMV, you must answer that
notice before the suspension date listed on the notice. Failure to have
that notice in this Court before that suspension date will require that
the motorist pay a non-refundable, State-Mandated, suspension lift fee
for each ticket, in addition to any fines that may be due. Return the
entire suspension notice to the Court; do not tear off any portion; do
not write on it.
If you wish to handle your suspension in person, payments can be made at
the window Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. through 3:00 p.m. No
payments will be accepted while Court is in session on Tuesday mornings
and Thursday evenings.
Small claims up to $3,000
Civil cases involving $3,000 or less
Crimes, violations and misdemeanors occurring in the confines of the
Town of Tuxedo.
Parking violations and violations of the Town Code.

Claims must be filed in person and are accepted Monday through Thursday
10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. only.
No exceptions will be made.
If your claim is for $3,000 or less, and the defendant resides in or has
a place of business in the confines of the Town of Tuxedo, you may avail
yourself of the Town of Tuxedo Justice Court. The cost of filing a Small
Claim is as follows:
$10.00 - Cash Filing fee to the Court (for claims up to and
including $1,000.)
$15.00 - Cash Filing fee to
the Court (for claims over $1,000 up to
and including $3,000)
$20.00 - Civil Court Filing
Fee *
Fees are payable at the time of filing.
If your claim is settled prior to the hearing date, both parties must
notify the Court in writing. If your claim proceeds, you must be
prepared at the time of the hearing to prove your claim. This mandates
that all evidence and witnesses must be present as scheduled.
*It is the responsibility of the plaintiff to prepare the paperwork and
have it served.
