Telephone Scam Alert - Green Dot Card Scam

posted Jun 17, 2014, 11:39 AM by Web Master   [ updated Jun 17, 2014, 11:39 AM ]

At least two businesses in the Town of Tuxedo have been victim to a telephone scam where the caller claims to be a representative from a utility company (Orange & Rockland) and threatens to turn off that businesses power unless they pay $1,000 in cash cards over the phone.  The scam is known as the “Green Dot Card Scam.”  I have attached a report, created by the NYPD, that outlines what the criminals do.

Can you please add this information to the Town of Tuxedo website and add that if anyone encounters this type of phone call to please call the Town of Tuxedo Police Department immediately at (845)351-5111.
